Black Canvas
Pele’s hair poisoned
blue turns black
vomiting every morning.
Coral and fish turn brown
birds, butterflies and bees
skip the land in disgust.
We became
steward of a sick land.
Eight years passed,
with our bare hands into the land
venomous centipede blessings
creation overcomes destruction.
Today, fruit trees and heliconias,
Agraulis vanillae and chickens
Amakihi and geckos
bees, turkeys and worms-
the land sings a new song.
Listening to whale's dream,
creation paints on black canvas.
